Sam Neua
Sam Neua is a city in Hua Phan Province, Laos. The Hua Phan region, bordering Vietnam, is one of the remotest areas of Laos. The roads leading there are long and windy (but paved) as you ascend into the mountains. It is one of the most ethnically diverse provinces in Laos .
See the former Pathet Lao living Caves near Vieng Xai, Namnoua waterfall and the Hintang Archaeological Park.
Mountainous and particularly scenic, the province has a mish-mashed network of dirt and sealed roads.
It is set against a picture-perfect mountain backdrop, amid forested hills and rice fields.
The province is known for its weaving and many of the houses in the blocks sur- rounding the market have looms on their verandas.
The locally-woven fabrics are eye-catching and beautifully crafted pieces.
Getting here requires a very long spectacular bus ride over a windy road into the mountains.
