Inle Lake

Inle Lake is a shallow lake in the middle of Myanmar, south-east of Mandalay. The lake is 22km long, and it is home for many different tribes.

A boat trip on the lake is a must-do. You can also see thousands of waterbirds that use Inle Lake either as a breeding site or on migration. Some are rare species difficult to see anywhere else. The best times are December and January.

Inle Lake lies between rugged mountains. See picturesque stilt villages and floating gardens around the shore and a market. The local fishermen glide around the lake using a unique rowing technique. Using their legs to row.

The lake is so large and the villages and temples so spread out that Inle never feels too crowded. Inle Lake, one of the most popular resorts for foreign tourists as well as for the local people.
