Kyaikhto is a small town in Southeastern Myanmar. Famous for its golden boulder and pagoda balancing over a cliff.
The Golden Rock is one of the most important religious sites in Myanmar. The site is a pagoda built on top a massive granite boulder. The boulder has been balancing on the edge of a cliff face since antiquity.
Particularly stunning at sunset and sunrise, when a magical atmosphere envelops the shrine. Spectacular views during late afternoon hours or at sunset. At dawn the sun comes over the ridge behind the rock.
To reach the Golden Rock in Kyaikhto, a bumpy ride on a crowded open truck is necessary.
People come from all over the entire region including Thailand and Cambodia. This is one of three main pilgrimage sites in Myanmar.
The Golden Rock has a golden glow. It is an amazing place to visit, the uniqueness of the rock, and to watch the hundreds of devotees. Kyaikhto is a religious site so you have to be bare foot in entire shrine area and distances can be significant.
