Mrauk U
Mrauk U is a medieval town and archaeological site in Central Myanmar. The style of the temples is completely different from any place in the region.
From Marak U day trips to semi-remote Chin villages along the nearby Lemro River. Fifteen hundred years ago Wethali was the capital of an ancient Arakan kingdom. All you can see today is the layout of the palace and a statue known as the Great Image of Hsu Taung.
The abandoned city and hundreds of temples and pagodas at Mrauk U form an awe-inspiring sight. Koe Thaung Temple has stone terraces, passageways and thousands of Buddha images.
Best of all, you’re likely to have the temples all to yourself as the area receives few foreign visitors.
Mrauk U is one of the wettest regions in Myanmar.
