Northeast Highlands of Cambodia Itinerary
Day 1 – Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham – Sen Monorom
Set off by vehicle from Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom. Here visit Memot Centre for Archaeology. Founded in 1999 with the aim to encourage the study of prehistory in Cambodia.
Next Phnong Cementary Graveyard, a modern day cemetery of the Phnong ethnic minority. The cemetery is situated on a hillside overlooking the grass covered Mondulkiri plateau. The graves marked by large urns and tools that the deceased used while living. – Overnight in Sen Monorom
Day 2 – Sen Monorom – Banlung
Enjoy a trip to Bou Sra Waterfall, a spectacular double-tiered waterfall and the largest in Cambodia. In total, the upper and lower tiers drop from a height of 35 metres. On the way back, visit a small Phnong Village.
Drive to Banlung via Koh Nhek and Lumphat, the final frontier as far as Mondulkiri goes. This village in the far north of the province is a strategic place on the overland route between Sen Monorom and Ratanakiri Province.
Lastly visit Yeak Loam Lake, a local favorite. The Lake is actually a beautiful crater lake lying in the remains of a volcano that erupted over 4000 years ago. – Overnight in Banlung

Day 3 – Banlung
From Banlung, travel by 4WD to Ta Veang while visiting many of the different minority villages in the area. Groups include the Jarai, Tumpoun, Krueng, Kra Chok and Kavet. – Overnight in Banlung

Day 4 – Banlung
This morning set off by vehicle to Veun Sai. Here board a boat to Prove village with a particularly impressive cemetery. After exploring the village, continue by local ferry boat across the river to a nearby Lao and Chinese village. If time permits; visit a Kreung village as well before returning to Banlung. – Overnight in Banlung

Day 5 – Banlung
Travel to the village of Andoung Meas where you embark on a boat to Phoum Dal, a Jarai village. The Jarai are an ethnic minority who dwell in traditional stilt houses. Their beliefs are polytheistic and they follow elaborate funerary customs, carving fascinating funerary totems out of wood. After exploring the village, enjoy a picnic lunch on the riverbanks. Before returning to Banlung by boat and 4WD. – Overnight in Banlung

Day 6 – Banlung – Kampong Cham
Make the journey from Banlun to Kampong Cham with the rest of the day at your leisure. – Overnight in Kampong Cham

Day 7 – Kampong Cham
Enjoy a day of sightseeing in Kampong Cham. Kampong Cham is a lively port on the banks of the Mekong River with good examples of colonial-era architecture.
After visiting the local market and exploring town, travel through the countryside. Where you stop at Phnom Pros (Man Hill) and Phnom Srei (Woman Hill). According to local tradition, two teams of men and women held a competition. The aim to build a stupa on the summit of each hill before dawn. After being tricked into thinking that daybreak had already come, the men lost the competition. As a result, forever-after had to be the ones to approach the women for their hands in marriage.
Continue to Wat Nokor Bachey, a thriving modern-day monastery founded on an 11th century Mahayana Buddhist shrine. Afterwards drive back to Phnom Penh. – Overnight in Phnom Penh
