The mangrove walk consists of a series of elevated walkways offering panoramic views. Continue by boat trip to Koh Sralao Fishing Village which is surrounded by dense forest. Kampot has been settled for centuries, but the current layout of the city along with the oldest buildings date from the French colonial period of the late 19th and early 20th century. The town itself feels rather eerie at times, an old French colonial resort partly destroyed by the Khmer Rouge, but slowly being taken over by locals again. Today explore Phnom Penh, a chaotic and energetic city. Graceful tree-lined boulevards and riverfront promenades are reminders of bygone eras; today they teem with life and activity, as motorcycles weave in and out of traffic and vendors hawk their wares. Visit Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha. In the afternoon, learn about the tragic past at the Tuol Sleng Museum (Museum of Genocide). Formerly the Tuol Svay Prey High School, this became the interrogation and torture facility for the Khmer Rouge regime. Finally, explore two of the great markets, the Central Market and sprawling Russian Market, a labyrinth of stalls selling everything from CDs and DVDs to silks, crafts, jewellery and more.
